Arley Farm is a Santa Gertrudis beef breeding property, each year from early August our cows have young calves which are great fun to go out and visit. In the late afternoon, groups of calves are often seen racing around and generally getting into trouble. We carry around 100-150 head of cattle depending on the season and year.
We keep a small flock of free range hens with a rooster near the Dairy and children love to collect the eggs and feed the hens.
Arley Farm is one of the best places on the Sunshine Coast to go out and see platypus in a natural setting on our creeks and dams. We have about 25 resident platypus and can nearly always arrange for you to visit them when weather is permitting. Because some of our creeks have clear open water, we can spot them easily and get up close for a great photo. Our creeks also have the usual critters such as turtles, water dragons and excellent birdlife including the azure kingfisher.
Down on the Obi Obi creek we have established a private BBQ and recreation area with swim-hole, shelters, hammock, badminton net and table setting. This adjoins an excellent rainforest remnant with towering figs and over 200 species of plants. The recreation area is a short five minute walk from the Dairy and is popular with families for a relaxing day by the creek.
Arley Farm has three dams and two creeks with 1.5 kilometres to the Obi Obi. Throughout the farm and creek areas native vegetation has been replanted and conserved. There are numerous walks that can be taken on the farm, all of which are suitable for small children with easy walking from 15 minutes to over an hour. Views from the hilltop overlooking the Obi Obi Creek are spectacular.
The Old Dairy accommodation has attached a large barn with full size table tennis table, piano, and kids drawing area with toys. For many parents this a great place for kids to run around and keep themselves occupied, especially good if the weather turns nasty. |
